Julie Chen and Babyface Edmonds are also among participating Hollywood icons who will each appear on LED billboards in Times Square in support of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation.
Some of Hollywood’s most beloved stars will be featured on the flashing screens of Times Square for a good cause.
Headshots of Jay Leno, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, Dolly Parton, Julie Chen, Babyface Edmonds and Josh Groban will each be featured for one week on an LED billboard in support of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation. The promotion will take place during the next seven weeks, celebrating the foundation’s dedication to finding a cure for diabetes.
Over $100 million has been raised for the Denver, Colorado-based center, founded by Barbara Davis and her late husband Marvin (former owner of 20th Century Fox). The foundation has treated thousands of children with diabetes and supported various research programs across the globe, with the help funds raised from the biennial and star-studded Carousel of Hope Gala.
Now in its 30th year, the longtime Hollywood benefit is gearing up to honor Sidney Poitier, Jane Fonda, Sherry Lansing and David Foster at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Oct. 8. Leno will once again emcee and presenters will include Denzel Washington, Anjelica Huston, Quincy Jones and Carole Bayer Sager.
George Schlatter will return to produce the show while Quincy Jones and Clive Davis will return as the music chairmen.
Davis and her late husband Marvin started the nonprofit foundation after their daughter Dana was diagnosed with type-one diabetes as child. Barbara’s daughter Nancy also has a yearly Race to Erase MS gala, which raises money for research into multiple sclerosis (MS).
“We have come a long way and have seen miraculous advances toward the cure and prevention since we began this united fight over 38 years ago,” said Barbara Davis in a statement.
“With better treatments, we are seeing the quality of life improved and extended for thousands of children and adults around the world,” adds Dana Davis, executive director of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation.
The Children’s Diabetes Foundation was established by Barbara and Marvin Davis in 1977 in Denver as a non-profit organization dedicated solely to the support of research in diabetes and to provide the best possible clinical and educational programs for people with the disease. The Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to support the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, where thousands of patients of all ages from all over the world receive the finest diabetes care available. Since 1978, the Children’s Diabetes Foundation has contributed $100 million dollars to the Barbara Davis Center.
